Because someone out there needs what you have to say.
There is something transformative that happens the moment you choose to share your story. Whether you realize it or not, your lived experience carries weight. It holds truth. And when shared with courage, it becomes a catalyst for connection, empowerment, and even change.
Because the truth is that someone out there is waiting for your story to unlock their healing.
But why do you need a bigger audience?
Listen, I’m not saying you have to go speak at an event with thousands of people on your first gig. But I am saying that if you are nervous about sharing your story or even getting started as a speaker, you need an audience that is bigger than your mirror, your best friend, and your cat.
Start with a local open mic night or sponsor a networking event. This is one of my favorite ways to get in front of a crowd of 30-50 people who can benefit from hearing what I have to say. This scenario usually affords you anywhere from 2-7 minutes of time on the mic, but you can say a lot of powerful things in just a few minutes!
Once you have done that a few times, look for a local event that you relate to and see if they need any speakers. You never know until you ask, and if you never ask, the answer is always no.
Anyway, when we share our stories on larger stages, whether it’s a conference, a podcast, a book, or even a well-written social media post, we move from personal reflection to public resonance. And that is where things start to happen.
It’s one thing to process your story for your own growth. But it is another thing entirely to offer your story to the world, not as a finished product, but as a lifeline.
Because when we speak up in front of others, especially when it feels scary, we let someone else see themselves in us. And that changes everything.
Think of your story as a key that unlocks the door for others to walk through. The invitation to open up and share their stories too. So many of us are entering our most powerful chapter yet, but we still carry the weight of invisibility. We have been taught to shrink, to stay quiet, to clean up our story before presenting it to the world.
But no more.
When you share your story as it is, with all the emotions and experiences you’ve had, you give permission to others to stop hiding and share their own story. You remind them, “You are not alone.”
And the best part of sharing your story with a bigger audience? Speaking heals both the speaker and the listener!
Now, I know that speaking your truth out loud can feel like standing naked on a mountaintop in a thunderstorm: vulnerable, exposed, and terrifying.
But on the other side of that fear are freedom and growth. The type of growth and healing that happens in community, in circles, and in rooms where stories echo back to us in the tears, nods, and laughter of those listening.
You might think, “My story is not that powerful.” But someone else might hear it and think, “If she made it through that, maybe I can too.”
That is power. That is impact. That is why we speak. And that is why it is important to start sharing your story in bigger spaces, where it feels a little scary and exhilarating!
You weren’t meant to stay small. Your life, your lessons, and your voice were not given to you just for your own benefit. They were given so that you could reach others. Bigger audiences mean bigger reach, bigger impact, bigger possibility for someone else to hear the exact words they need at exactly the right time.
Don’t wait until you feel ready. Start with what you have, be the speaker you are right now, and trust that your story will land where it needs to.
Your story is important, and your voice is powerful. In a culture full of comparison, noise, and curated perfection, authenticity reigns above all. And nothing is more authentic than your true, lived experience, spoken out loud, from the heart.
